Francis Debeyre is an artist who lives in Lille. He started making masks in his garden 35 years ago.
He has been working for all kinds of stages: theatre, circus, dance, any other kind of performance.
This Sunday was the last day of the extended exhibition called The Man Without a Mask, whose original French pun “The man with a hundred masks” cannot really be translated.
Do you know other phrases that can’t be adapted from one language to the other?
If you didn’t see it, here is a link to the exhibition btw. (Link no longer works.)
Enjoy and have a nice week!
:-)
Thank you for this post Jean-François! Some of the masks are really impressive. (Have you taken the photos yourself?)
Yeah, of course I did.
I didn’t want to miss any of them, as the exhibition was ending.
The gloomy atmosphere in the dark with the music was so… enchanting.
:-)
I like the Debeyre (from “bear”) anecdote.
The whole staff at the Unicorn Theater was beardy btw (by the way). ?
